Blog Tour + Review: Hard Truth (Hard to Love #2)
What’s worse than hating your boss? Falling in love with him….
Hard Truth, the much anticipated conclusion to Hard Place by Emily Goodwin is LIVE!
The first time I met Alexander Harding, I yelled at him for taking my parking spot. Rich and powerful, I saw him as nothing more than my new coldhearted boss. I hated him once but now…now things aren’t that simple. There’s a man beneath the beast, and the more I get to know him, the more I fall in love with him.
Though just as I’m able to envision a future together, the past comes back to haunt us both.
Six years ago, my life changed forever when I found out I was pregnant. The last thing I expected was to see Michael Cooper again, but now he’s here and is ready to make up for lost time. He wants to be involved in his daughters’ life. My life. And it’s making me question everything.
I never thought it was possible to be in love with two men at the same time. One from my past, and one I want in my future. My heart is completely torn in two, with each half going in a different direction. I’d give them each half if I could.
But then I would be left with nothing.

Hard Truth is the conclusion of Harper and Alex’s duet. I was anticipating this book since Hard Place ended on a cliffhanger with the twins' dad showing back up with a pink letter. If you have not read Hard Place yet, do not read any further as there will be spoilers for it in this review.
When Harper found out she was pregnant, she sent out letters written on pink paper to every man she could find with Michael's name but she never heard back. The beginning of Hard Truth starts with Michael's point of view so we learn that he was deploying the next day and that his older brother had died over a year ago. He was still grieving when he met Harper and so was she so they connected and had an amazing night that resulted in Harper getting pregnant with twins. Fast forward six years later, Harper has just gotten back from a night with Alex. She's happy and hoping this means that he likes her as much as she likes him. Michael shows up after she gets home and turns her world upside down. He just discovered her letter since all his mail went to his mother's house and she dumped everything she didn't think was important into a box and stored it in her attic. They found it and Michael, using his resources as a cop, found Harper ready to be a father to his girls. Alex shows up as was shown at the end of Hard Place. He ends up taking the twins out to shopping while Michael and Harper talk. Michael wants to make up for loss time and wants to get to know his daughters. Harper feels some type of way about having to split custody with Michael and she starts to have feelings for him again.
The love triangle was my least part of the story. I'm not a fan of them because someone always gets hurt. It was clear that Harper would choose Alex in the end since her main reasons for wanting to be with Michael were because she didn't want to split custody and thought it'd be easier if she was with him instead of Alex. She also wanted to be sure how Alex felt about her. I liked Alex and Harper but this story kind of irritated me sometimes. It annoyed me how there was no communication and when I was about 40% in nothing had really happened. I am not a mother so I didn't really relate to Harper's panic about not being with her kids and it seemed a little selfish when Michael just wanted to get to know his own children. I loved how understanding Michael was though. He never pushed her to fast and went at her pace. It felt as if a lot of things could have been solved if Harper had talked to either of the men and been upfront with them. And Alex could have also been upfront about his feelings but I understood his hesitation with his background. I thought the chemistry between Alex and Harper was off the charts and they fit together really well. The chemistry between Michael and Harper wasn't as good as in there was none. Everything seemed rushed and forced between them. Nothing was developed and it was hard for me to believe Harper was really in love with a man she met for one night and hadn't seen for years.
I also felt like the whole stalker situation was unnecessary. It was contrived and very forced as well. Harper knew there was a danger with this guy but she kept going back to her apartment after all the encounters she had with him. It was my least favorite part of the book. The end with the stalker felt really out of place and I didn't get her decisions.
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I am a huge fan of Emily and her work and I love that I get to keep supporting her. Harper and Alex along with the twins were sweet and I was rooting for them to become a family. I also liked Michael and I hope he gets his own happily ever after. I enjoyed his friends and sister as well. I cannot wait to see what's next in this series!
