Savannah

“Savannah!”
I turned to the sound of my name and smiled when I saw a cute guy from my English class jogging toward me. He stopped in front of me with a smile of his own.
“Where are you headed in such a hurry?”
“I need to get home to relieve my sister of babysitting duties.”
“Is it your kid or your sister’s?”
“It’s my daughter. I live with my older sister who helps me watch her while I’m in class which is helpful,” I replied honestly.
He grinned, his demeanor not changing when he heard I had a daughter. “Would your sister possibly be willing to babysit this Saturday so I can take you out?”
I hesitated. No was on the tip of my tongue but why? In December it would be two years since I’ve seen or heard from Hunter, my daughter’s father. He abandoned me when I needed him the most and hasn’t tried to reach out since. I needed to move on and stop holding out that he’d come back. Because to be honest, I didn’t know if I could ever forgive what he’d done.
“Sure. It has to be lunch though since Lou works afternoons on Saturday. Does two work?”
“That’s perfect, Savannah. Should we exchange numbers and then I’ll let you get home to your little girl?”
I chuckled lightly and pulled out my phone. Once numbers were exchanged, we said goodbye and I turned back in the direction I’d been walking. I felt light and happy as I continued to my car. This was a good step. It didn’t mean anything had to come of this date with Randall, but at least she was putting herself out there again.
It took me ten minutes to make it to my apartment building. I grabbed everything before climbing out of my car and going into the lobby and to the elevator. I tapped my foot as I waits for the elevator doors to slid open. Once they do, I climbed on and pressed the button for the fifth floor. It only took minutes for me to reach my floor and apartment. I unlocked the door, and stepped inside, stopping right in my tracks when I saw who was sitting on the couch holding my daughter.
